Here are some tips on the best ways to use the free language arts activities list:

1. English language arts worksheets alternatives – There are an abundance of free language arts worksheets available on pinterest and other websites. Some students really love worksheets and English language arts teachers like to use worksheets because they are a great way to have a portfolio of what a student is learning to track their progress. Some students don’t enjoy worksheets or don’t retain information in language arts worksheets as well as they would with other activities.

When browsing the free language arts games and free language arts activities you will see that many of the topics commonly covered in language arts worksheets are presented in these games and activities in a fun and interactive way. Students that don’t enjoy worksheets can still learn the same language arts topics through these games.

You will notice that some of the websites where free English games are available will even list the common core state standards for language arts under the game. This gives teachers an easy way to see the exact goals students are accomplishing with these free language arts games available online that students love.

2. Helping reluctant readers – If the student you are teaching is reluctant about reading it is a good idea to present books in a different way. There are free printable PDF books for preschool, kindergarten, and elementary levels on the resource list. If your student isn’t responding well to sitting down and reading the free printable book in the classroom or your homeschool you can present it in a different way.

One way that we love to do this is through read aloud videos. Many of the free read aloud video stories available on our resource list are read by popular celebrities that the student might be familiar with. A good reader can make all the difference when presenting the book to a student.

Another fun way to encourage reluctant readers is to let them read a free interactive online book. This makes reading the book more like a fun game and can help to engage your emerging kindergarten or elementary school level reader.

Science Experiment Safety Tips

The free science experiments in the resource collection can be a fantastic way to add some variety to your homeschool science curriculum or other homeschool science tools your family is using. Students love to engage with hands on science experiments and activities, but it is always important to stay safe!

When selecting a science project or science experiment for kids you need to keep the following safety tips in mind.

1. Is the experiment age appropriate? It is important that the science project that you select for your homeschool is age appropriate and aligns with the science curriculum you are using with your student. Make sure that they have been introduced to the concepts covered in the curriculum before the experiment starts so that they get the most out of the science project.

2. What materials are needed? Even though all of the free science projects and science experiments in this list are listed as being free you might need to go to your local store to pick up some materials to complete the free science experiment. Take a look at the science experiment materials list and instructions before diving in. Many of the experiments on the list can be completed with cheap ingredients that are found in most households.

3. How much supervision is needed? For science experiments that your preschool, kindergarten, or elementary student will be completing it is wise to take into account that the student will most likely need adult supervision. Read the instructions before starting the experiment to decide what steps the student can complete on their own, and what steps in the science experiment your student will need adult help with.

4. How messy is the experiment? Anyone who has done a science project or experiment knows that things can get messy! Be sure to prepare towels or a tarp to perform the experiment on, or if it is really messy consider doing the free science project outdoors.

Social Studies Topics for Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary School

Social studies involves a lot more than just teaching children history or the names of the oceans. The social sciences are very diverse and many social science topics are important for even the youngest students to learn.

Here are four social studies topics for preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school:

1. Global Social Studies – When teaching students about history, geography, and other social studies topics it is important to not just look locally at the country that your student lives in, but introduce them to global social studies. Students love to learn about how people in other countries live, the food they enjoy, and the homes they live in. Make sure that your homeschool social studies curriculum involves a variety of cultures around the globe to give your student a well rounded education.

2. Community Social Studies – Most homeschool and elementary school social studies standards require community social studies to be covered. This is an important part of any social studies curriculum. In community social studies students learn about their family, their household, their neighborhood, and the town or city they live in. Students might also learn about local geography when studying community social studies.

3. Safety Social Studies – A very important part of social studies curriculum is learning about how your community functions in terms of safety concerns and community service. This is a good time to introduce the student to the concept of different community helpers like; firefighters, police officers, doctors, librarians, park rangers, and teachers. When teaching community safety social studies you will also want to teach the student local emergency numbers and what to do if there is a fire or other emergency.
